Aged Care Consultation Workshop - Perth

During 2018, the Aged Care Workforce Taskforce identified and reported on a number of workforce issues relating to the aged care sector. One specific issue involved skills training, and the current Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) was identified as not being adequate to meet the skills needs of workers and employers.

To take forward a formal review of this Vocational Education and Training (VET) qualification, as well as consider wider training issues for the sector and other related Training Package Products, an Aged Services Industry Reference Committee (IRC) was established. SkillsIQ, under the direction of the Aged Services IRC, has now commenced the Aged Care Training Package Product Development project which entails two phases:

Phase 1: Examine how current Units of Competency from the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing) can be re-packaged into a stand-alone Certificate III in Ageing Support
Phase 2: Conduct a comprehensive and complete review and update of all Units of Competency relevant to aged care, including determining appropriate career pathways and development opportunities.
